I am not overpaid with reference to the Salaries and advantages enjoyed by the Employers of Mercantile Houses.
Your Lordship will have the good news to remember that 5 per cent is granted to Civil officers on account of Superannuation Fund and 5 per cent for Income Tax is deducted from the Salaries of Colonial officers, and that these officers enjoy some advantages, such as Board and lodging, Coals and Candles which are furnished to all Clerks of the principal Mercantile Establishments by their firms respectively, and which I estimate to be equivalent to £110 or £200 per annum in addition to their fixed stipends.
